Welcome from Judson Fellowship
The 2020 school year begins! 2020 has been a year that will live forever in our minds as one of the craziest years we lived through. No matter if you are a returning student or a freshman ready to take those first steps on your own, we welcome you.
This year is going to look a little different. I am sure that our freshman did not imagine a pandemic being part of their first year. Also, for returning students, you had a taste of, "doing digital college," but the hybrid schedule should prove new to you. Here is the good news, we are all in this together. We get to experience this year together. That means we can build relationships through our shared experience of 2020.
We are going to need to have some shared tools to help us finish 2020 strong. First, we are going to need grace. Many changes are happening, and being gracious to yourself will help keep you positive this year. Second, go with the flow. Changes are bound to happen. As NIU and the rest of the community seek to navigate the pandemic, how we are living life and doing school now may have changes coming. Leaning into the flow will help reduce some anxiety when the changes come. Know they are coming and prepare for them as best you can, even if that is just mentally acknowledging there will be changes. Third, stay connected. You all have been living in the same COVID-19 world since March. Staying connected even digitally increases your mood and life in general, in a positive direction. Even if NIU is not having in-person meetings in all their classes and clubs, connect digitally. NOw is a great time to get to know clubs. You get a taste of who the people are before you have to meet them in person. Use that to your advantage. Finally, wash your hands and wear a mask. You have heard about keeping the pack safe. Please, keep yourselves safe. If you need help, reach out to us at baptistcampusministry@gmail.com. I (Pastor Zach) and Judson Fellowship will help you in any way we can.
Know that you are welcomed with open arms from a safe distance. Know that you have community and friends waiting to meet you, even if that is digital.
This year is only one year in your life, but live it to the fullest. Life is a gift, live it abundantly, and don't be reckless with it.
